The JCC Maccabi Games bring together Jewish athletes (ages 13-16) at all different skill levels, playing numerous individual and team sports. With the JCC of Houston being a host city for the 2007 Games, Jewish athletes who are at least twelve (12) years old on or before July 31, 2007 are invited to participate as part of the delegation for Team Houston. At this time, such athletes, however, shall only compete in individual sports, i.e., bowling, dance, golf, swimming, table tennis, and tennis. There is a place for both the highly competitive (possibly nationally ranked) athlete, as well as the recreational athlete just looking to participate. The Games are based upon the premise that sports provide a meaningful framework for strengthening Jewish identity of our young people. There are many opportunities to instill Jewish values throughout these Games -- informal education, social activities, and community service projects become just as important as the athletic competition, itself.

Team Houston has participated in this wonderful event for thirteen years, traveling most recently in 2006 to Phoenix, Arizona. Without a doubt, this program has impacted each and every participant with its competition, spirit and social/cultural interactions. Delegates from all over the United States, Israel, Mexico, South America, Australia and Europe will test their skills in fourteen different sports while enjoying the best that our community has to offer.

Although the tryouts have officially ended, if you have an interest in participating as an athlete for Team Houston, please contact Stuart Levit, Team Houston Delegation Head at 713.729.3200, ext. 3268.
